The boat stops at Aswan; ancient Elephantine. The temple foundations were laid by Tuthmosis III of the 18th Dynasty, but Ptolemaic and Roman Emperors completed (40 to 250A.D), and their names are recorded all over the temple walls. The Temple is dedicated to the ram-headed god Khunum and his consort, the Nubian lion-headed goddess of Sekhmet.

The inscriptions on its walls provide important information on language, myth and religion during Hellenistic Period in Egypt. The Temple’s inscribed building texts “provide details of its construction, and also preserve information about the mythical interpretation of this and all other temples as the Island of Creation. There are also “important scenes and inscriptions of the sacred conflict between Horus and Set.”

day 7

Tuesday, 25th
Itinerary: Selsela Quarry and Temple

Selsela Temple
The Dahabyia will set sail again upstream to the iconic Selsela Temple and quarry, only accessible from the Nile and approached by small boats and floating vessels; your next destination is the least visited Gebel-al-Silsila archeological site. There in this section of the Nile, the mighty River narrows and the bedrock changes from the dominating limestone of the north to the Nubian Sandstone of the south. Ancient Egyptians called it “Khenu”, or the “place of rowing”.

The sandstone quarries of Gebel al-Selsela have been used from the Middle Kingdom (c.2034–1650 BC) until the 20th century. More than a hundred quarries were exploited to extract sandstone blocks necessary to construct many of the ancient Egyptian Temples across the country. Silsila is not only a quarry, in fact, it was also an important destination for ceremonies and rituals. Indeed, priests and worshippers performed ceremonies, made elaborate offerings, and participated in religious rituals to the gods here. Selsela served as a place of devotion to a diverse array of deities including Amun, Sobek, Habi and others- each deity represented different aspects of life and nature. Most of the monuments at Gebel el-Selsela site, mainly shrines, were cut directly into the cliff face, creating an awe-inspiring landscape. The biggest of these structures is the rock-cut temple of Hormoheb.
MEDITATION with Loukia Papa.

day 8

Wednesday, 26th
Itinerary: Komombo Temple

8:00AM: Wake up at leisure and breakfast will be served on-board. We can have a morning swim for those who would like to enjoy swimming in the cool refreshing waters of the Mighty Nile River. The first Temple we meet after leaving Aswan is Komombo Temple which is quite unusual in many ways; it is an unusual double temple in the town of Kom Ombo in Upper Egypt. It was constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty, 180–47 BC. Some additions to it were later made during the Roman period. The building is unique because its 'double' design meant that there were courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms duplicated for two sets of gods. The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek, god of fertility and creator of the world with Hathor and Khonsu. While, the northern part of the temple was dedicated to the falcon god Horus. The temple is atypical because everything is perfectly symmetrical along the main axis.
1:00PM: Return to boat for lunch.
2:00PM: rest day by an amazing sandy beach in the Nile.
6:00PM: Special dinner on the island and a local performance night.

day 10

Friday, 28th
Cairo

6:30AM: Sunrise meditation (OPTIONAL).
8:30AM: Breakfast on a private boat around the Philae Island and the sacred Beja Island.
Head to Philae Temple, one of the most spectacular and complete temples in Upper Egypt. Philae Temple was said to be one of the burying-places of Osiris, it was held in high reverence both by the Egyptians to the north and the Nubians of the south. It was said that only priests were allowed to dwell there and it was reported too that neither birds flew over it nor fish approached its shores. However, in the time of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, Philae was so much resorted to, partly by pilgrims to host them while visiting the tomb of Osiris. The Roman era saw an overall decline in pilgrimage to Philae, especially from Mediterranean regions, as evidenced by the reduced number of inscriptions. Nevertheless, it remained an important sacred site, especially for Nubians, who continued to visit both as individual pilgrims and in official delegations from their government in Meroe.
1:30PM: Return to Hotel for check out and immediately we will make our way to the Aswan International Airport to fly to Cairo.
